Please read the specifics below regarding our dogs and how to inquire about a Stardust puppy.
We have found the best fit for our puppies in homes that:
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Stardust Dachshunds are smart and happy dogs who are willing workers for all the AKC events I participate in, but also great companions. Most of the pups I breed are placed in family/pet homes. I can happily provide references for my dogs awesome temperament and training ability.
The weight of standards is generally 23 - 30#, and I breed for a correct easy to maintain coat.
We are an AKC GOLD Breeder of Merit (breeder of over 65 titled dogs) and ALL of our puppies are sold with AKC Registration, limited for pets and full for show/performance. We NEVER sell breeding stock only.
We are not a "color" breeder, we only produce Red, Shaded Red, Sable and Black and Tan.
Keep in mind, we do NOT SHIP! All puppies must be picked up in person. If you cannot arrange this, I can try to find a breeder closer to you.
Are You Interested in a Stardust Dachshund puppy?
1. Write to me at stardust3940@aol.com. Please explain your past dog experience, when you'd like to add anew pup, your goals for a new puppy and what type of lifestyle a puppy would fit into, etc. If you had a Dachshund before, or have participated in any AKC events, please tell me about it!!
2. You will receive a follow up email which will include the upcoming breeding plans and other details. We may be able to arrange an in home visit, or meet at a dog event for us to meet you, and see our dogs.
3. Once a litter is born and we know the number and sex, we will chat again about the possibility of a puppy, price and other details and get the Puppy Information form completed. If everything is compatible and we agree a puppy is available, we will ask for a $500 deposit to hold your pup until ready to go home.
Our Philosophy about breeding :
Much thought and research goes into planning any litters. We want to make sure that all Stardust bred puppies start off with the right genetics to be sound in both mind and body. All pups are raised in our home with lots of daily interaction, they are subject to the noises and activities of daily life and are well socialized before they make their way to new homes.
We are often asked about the appropriate age to bring the new puppy home, this is generally 9-10 weeks, which is a good age to start bonding and training. We do not place puppies under 9 weeks, the pup needs to stay here with its mother as she will teach them much, and so will its litter mates. This is for the puppies benefit as well as yours.
Some Stardust litters are co-bred with close "breeder" friends that have Stardust dogs. Anyone I co-breed with has the same standards and philosophy so you are ensured of a quality puppy with responsible upbringing.
Because we want to make sure that a standard long haired dachshund is the right dog for your family, and also to match the puppy that will fit best into your lifestyle, we will ask you complete a puppy buyers questionnaire. Before a pup is sold, we will want to have a personal phone conversation with you, and if we agree that a dachshund is a good match for your family, we will ask that you also provide a veterinarian reference to ensure the pup will receive the proper health care.
All puppies are sold with contracts that specify we will accept the dog back for any reason. We do not want to ever hear of a Stardust bred dog going to a shelter.
*Generally, puppies will not be placed with a family that has children under age 4 unless they are experienced dog owners. It is too hard to balance the needs of a young child and puppy at the same time. Also, it is not fair for a puppy to be around children that are not carefully taught how to be treat an animal. We learned this lesson the hard way.
Please note, we will absolutely NOT ship puppies in cargo!! All puppies must be picked up in person and taken home via extra baggage (under the seat) or in your vehicle. These are our babies and must be treated with TLC, not frightened by a noisy airport and bumpy flight. For a small charge (for gas) we can meet you at the Milwaukee, Appleton or Green Bay Airport if desired.
FENCING
Dachshunds do best and are happiest when they have a securely fenced yard where they cannot get through or under the panels. Tying a dachshund on a rope or chain is only asking for trouble as they can get seriously injured running to the end of the chain and being jerked on the neck. Tie outs also tangle around their short legs causing frustration and injury.
Many times we are asked about electronic fences. We dislike them for many reasons, but mainly that our dogs have high hunting instinct, and this will absolutely not stop them from running right out over the fence line if they see or smell game. The temporary pain of the electric shock will not deter them from chasing a bunny or whatever, and, once out - they would not come back in.
Electronic fencing also does not stop other animals from coming into your yard to potentially cause harm to your dog.
If you do not have a fenced yard, a small penned enclosure can easily be made with commercially available exercise pens. Putting two of them together is more than enough space for a romp and a potty area.
Puppy Spay/Neuter Information
We believe a puppy should be fully grown before being spayed or neutered, that means between 10-12 months before surgery. By letting the puppy grow up with normal hormones, their bones develop properly and strongly. Obviously a dachshund is a long backed breed, it is very important for the skeleton to develop fully to have the support needed to carry the weight of the dog.
Purchase Price
No doubt, cost is important, but if you desire to purchase a Stardust Dachshund, you need to understand that no expense is spared when we breed a litter. The parents are fully health checked, the puppies are raised under the best conditions and eat premium foods. Countless hours are spent socializing and handling the babies. We want any puppies produced to be a companion you can cherish a lifetime, that has a stable temperament and healthy body.
We choose to do one Variety and size of the Dachshund breed the best we are able. We are successful, but our breeding program is small and we are extremely careful with what we produce and how they will live. These are our companions and house dogs; they don't live in a kennel or in the backyard, but with us in the house and on the sofa. They are part of our family and valued immensely.
There are "breeders" out there that have a continuous stream of puppies in whatever coat and size or "Fancy-Rare" colors (that usually come with a nice set of health problems). However, that is not how we operate, we take producing a litter very seriously and back up any puppy bred here for its lifetime.
So, if you inquire about a Stardust Dachshund, remember that the initial cost of any puppy is a one time expense. The cost of quality food, regular veterinary care, supplies (crate, brushes, combs, food bowls, Puppy Kindergarten class), occasional boarding, etc., is the same for any puppy regardless of if it is a well bred pup, from a puppy mill or back yard breeder. So, why not start off on the right foot with a well bred pup where you have a history of the parents health and temperament?
That all being said, each litter is priced differently depending on the bloodlines and other factors (litter expenses, stud fees, veterinary expenses, was frozen semen used, was a c-section needed, etc.). The current estimate for a puppy is in the $1800 - 2500 range. Prices will be discussed during the phone interview so there is a complete understanding of what the puppy charge is.
Please write to me at stardust3940@aol.com with any questions.
Show Puppy Information
If you are looking for a puppy to show, we cannot guarantee show quality at 10 -12 weeks, only a healthy well bred pup with potential. We call this pup a show Prospect. Please contact me for details and sample contract if you are interested in a show Prospect.
A true "show quality" puppy is older (6 months minimum), has all their permanent teeth and has grown quite a bit before we can be assured of their potential. These puppies will cost more due to the time, energy, and amount of training we put into a show puppy.
None of our puppies will be sold to a kennel situation or for primary use as "breeders".
All Stardust dogs must be primarily house dogs and enjoy the luxury and love of family living. No dog can develop correct temperament and personality living in a kennel.

Please read the specifics below regarding our dogs and how to inquire about a Stardust puppy.
We have found the best fit for our puppies in homes that:
- Have had previous experience with training dogs. Dachshunds are not always a good breed for a first time pet owner. Even with training, they will dig, they will bark and they will run away if given the opportunity!!
- Have a securely fenced yard, no electronic fence. Additional information is below.
- Live in a household that is dedicated to positive training and socializing of their puppy.
- Do not have currently have children under the age of 4 * (see below)
- Have financial stability to ensure proper nutrition and veterinary care. Pet Insurance is highly advised.
- Realize that no expense was spared in health testing, breeding and raising the litter.
- Agree to maintain a mentorship relationship with the breeder for any future questions or issues.
